About the Eventual Expat

Welcome! Thanks for visiting!

I hope you will follow me as I research, document and demonstrate my quest to find personal, political and economic freedom abroad.
I am a proud American, born and raised. I am no expert on expatriating but I am trying to become one.

As I grow more aware of the ever-increasing restraints upon my freedom, I am beginning to wonder if a life abroad can be an improvement over today’s apparent decline of the American sense of life. Would life as an American expatriate be an increase – or a decrease- in my overall freedom? How would I go about expatriating? How will I know if it is the right thing to do? When should I do it?

The Eventual Expat plans to discover the answers to these questions and many more.
Unlike expat discussion forums, retirements sites, and expat sites designed to sell real estate and services abroad, this blog is more concerned with gaining overall freedom. Especially personal, political and economic freedom.

And since my goal is to research expatriation, I figured I might as well share my findings through a blog.
I realize there is no perfect country. And as of yet, I have no particular country in mind. I also have no intention of blogging “Expatriating for Dummies” because I can see that much of the process of expatriating is quite obvious and easy to learn. If you're smart enough to explore the possibility of expatriating from the USA, and you're ambitious  enough to find The Eventual Expat Blog, then it's a cinch for you to find the answers to the most basic questions most novice expats would ask.

Therefore, ultimately, I am interested in learning the things about expatriating that a mere Google search won’t tell you.
The goal of expatriation can vary greatly from person to person. The Eventual Expat Blog is for those freedom seekers who are beginning to investigate a potential life abroad while still deciding if this whole expat thing is the right path for them.

If you have tons or money, a nice fat retirement check, you know where you want to go, and you have lots of family and resources abroad already, well then your expat goals are pretty much written in stone and The Eventual Expat probably won’t be your thing. But, if you’re like me and still wrestling with all of the what, why, where and when of expatriation, you may have found a like-minded Eventual Expat!

I wonder where The Eventual Expat will go?  Perhaps to that elusive haven of freedom?

Who knows? Maybe the eventual expat will remain eventual….

Thank you for visiting!
